LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an environmental rating and certification system for residential and commercial buildings from the U. S. Green Building Council.  LEED provides benchmarks for the design, construction, and operation of a property and covers site make up, building materials, water and energy efficiency as well as indoor environment quality.  The architect and the owner work together to identify and implement practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions
